Without his rising from the grave, all the rest of it would be meaningless. He triumphed over death and gave us life! To celebrate the day I thought I would share some quotes about Easter and the resurrection to help make us think as we celebrate with family and friends. Christ the Lord is risen today, Sons of men and angels say.

Raise your joys and triumphs high; Sing, ye heavens, and earth reply. The one who believes in me will live, even though they die; and whoever lives by believing in me will never die. Do you believe this? The issue on which everything hangs is not whether or not you like his teaching but whether or not he rose from the dead. I believe in Christianity as I believe that the sun has risen: not only because I see it, but because by it I see everything else. A man who was completely innocent, offered himself as a sacrifice for the good of others, including his enemies, and became the ransom of the world.

It was a perfect act. The great gift of Easter is hope — Christian hope which makes us have that confidence in God, in his ultimate triumph, and in his goodness and love, which nothing can shake. Immanuel, God with us in our nature, in our sorrow, in our lifework, in our punishment, in our grave, and now with us, or rather we with Him, in resurrection, ascension, triumph, and Second Advent splendor.

Our Lord has written the promise of resurrection, not in books alone but in every leaf of springtime. For what I received I passed on to you as of first importance: that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures, and that he appeared to Cephas, and then to the Twelve. After that, he appeared to more than five hundred of the brothers and sisters at the same time, most of whom are still living, though some have fallen asleep.

Our old status lies in his tomb. A new status is ours through his resurrection. Now if we died with Christ, we believe that we will also live with him. For we know that since Christ was raised from the dead, he cannot die again; death no longer has mastery over him. The death he died, he died to sin once for all; but the life he lives, he lives to God.

In the same way, count yourselves dead to sin but alive to God in Christ Jesus. Before the Resurrection of Christ, the Holy Spirit came upon individuals only on certain occasions for special tasks. But now, after the Resurrection, Christ through the Holy Spirit dwells in the heart of every believer to give us supernatural power in living our daily lives. He never promised any such thing.
